Obituary for Thomas Marshall "Tom" Gorman Jr.

Thomas Marshall “Tom” Gorman Jr., 75, of Adah, PA, passed away unexpectedly, on Friday, June 16, 2017 at home. Tom was born August 22, 1941, in New Castle, IN, son of the late Thomas M. Sr. and Elizabeth (Howard) Gorman.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, James D. Gorman.

Tom was a member of St Francis of Assisi Parish in Masontown. He was also very active in his former Churches, St. Albert’s in Palmer and Our Lady of Perpetual Help St. Mary’s in Leckrone, PA.

Tom was a graduate of the Carthage High School Class of 1959. Following High School Tom served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps from 1959-1963. Tom and his family lived in Carthage, IN from 1963-1975 where he worked as a meat cutter for Ruby’s Market. Tom and his family moved to Adah, PA in 1975 and he worked as a coal miner, employed by Nemacolin Mine and Emerald Mine, until retiring in 2001. He and his wife Elizabeth, owned and operated their own mine related business from 1990-2007.

Tom was a member of the Adah Gun Club, the Carthage Indiana Volunteer Fire Dept., the Adah Volunteer Fire Dept. and the American Legion Post 423, in Masontown.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Elizabeth L. (Tomecheck) Gorman; his four daughters, Julia Dugan and her husband Kerry Sr., Christine Hundertmark and her husband Jay, Tracy Gorman, and Celeste Woods and her husband Craig; grandchildren, Kerry Dugan Jr., Amanda McKoy, Frank Magazine Jr., Justine Hundertmark and Jayce Hundertmark; great grandchildren, Greyson Miller and Gideon Dugan; his siblings, Brenda Merrell, Ramona Cooper, Michael Gorman and Deanna Morgan and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Friends will be received in the Haky Funeral Home Inc., 515 N. Main St. Masontown, PA, today, June 18, from 2-8 p.m. and Monday, June 19, until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said. Rosary will be recited at 3:00 pm on Sunday.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 101 W. Church Ave., Masontown, PA. Celebrant will be Fr. Donald Trexler.

Interment will be held in St. Mary Cemetery, Leckrone, PA, where Military Honors will be accorded.

Tom’s family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or to the Masontown Emergency Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen.
